Defined by Design

Defined by Design explores more than 120 years of automobile design, innovation, and American history. Running from April 2026 through March 2027, the exhibition features vehicles that highlight significant stylistic and mechanical advancements across generations of automotive development.

The exhibition is presented in two phases. The first showcases vehicles from the late 1800s through the 1960s, tracing the automobile’s evolution from early experimental machines to the iconic designs of the mid-twentieth century. The second focuses on vehicles from 1970 onward, highlighting innovations in technology, efficiency, performance, and modern design.

Together, the vehicles tell the story of how the automobile has evolved while reflecting broader changes in American culture and technology.
