October Car of the Month: 1910 Oldsmobile Limited Series 24B
The Oldsmobile Limited was the top level, most expensive offering from General Motors for the 1910 model year. It is a large luxury car that was available as a touring car, four door sedan or as a 2 door roadster as seen in this example. The series 24 was equipped with a front mounted 505 cubic inch inline 6 cylinder engine that developed 60 H.P. and drove the rear wheels through a four speed gearbox with shaft drive.
The car also utilized drum brakes on the rear wheels and used a right hand drive layout. Wheel base varied by model from 118 to 140 inches with the roadster weighing in at nearly 4000#. Base prices ranged from $4600 to $5800 ($189,660 in 2023 dollars!).
Only 325 Limiteds of all body styles were produced making this car very rare. To give a perspective of the size of this car note that it rides on 43” tires! An Oldsmobile Limited was used in a race against the 20th Century Limited train from Albany to New York City and a painting was created by William Harnden Foster depicting the race with the car winning.
